The Skip City International D-Cinema Festival began in 2004 with their motto “discovering and nurturing new talent.” Over the years, the festival has unearthed fresh talent from the likes of Kazuya Shiraishi (The Blood of Wolves), Ryota Nakano (Her Love Boils Bathwater), and Shinichiro Ueda (One Cut of the Dead). This year, the festival will celebrate their 20th anniversary with their largest number of submissions yet. Out of 1246 submissions, only 24 nominations remain at the final stage, with all of them premiering for the first time in Japan. JVTA has supported the Skip City IDCF by providing English subtitles for the films that show as part of the Japanese Film Competition each year. This year, graduates of JVTA created English subtitles for the Opening Gala film as well as 4 feature length and 5 short length films.

Our translation school partners with Skip City IDCF every year to hold a special seminar to create English subtitles for a portion of the films. JVTA translation course graduates take on the task of English subtitling, and this year, six graduates took part in creating subtitles for 2 short films.
