“The Reality and Logic Behind Visual Media Translation Today” Join the JTF Translation Festival and learn from JVTA’s Translation Directors in our special lecture on Subtitling
On Friday, October 27th, JVTA will be hosting the program, “The Reality and Logic Behind Visual Media Translation Today” at the 32nd Japan Translation Federation (JTF) Translation Festival.
The JTF is an association of companies, organizations, and individuals who work within the business translation industry. In recent years, video has become an immensely popular form of PR, increasing the demand for subtitling translation among business translators and agencies. Even within JVTA, where we mostly handle subtitles and dubs for entertainment media, there has been a rising demand for translations and voiceovers for corporate promotional and introduction videos. As such, it is vital for the business translation industry to perceive the flow of present trends and learn the rules and techniques of subtitling and dubbing to keep up.
For this festival, JVTA received a request from the JTF to hold a seminar talking about our 20+ years of experience of teaching visual media translation and running a translation agency for our graduates.
The hosts of this seminar are two of our most revered veterans with years of project managing and teaching experience.
We will be sharing information that is beneficial for business translators and agencies alike who hope to take a step into visual media translation for business.
Part 1: “The Difference Between Subtitling and Dubbing/Voice Overs”
An introduction to the aspects of visual media translation, the needs of the film, drama, and PR video genres, the growing need for Japanese to English translation, and the barrier-free translation industry.
Part 2: “The Logic and Rules of Subtitling”
Through JVTA’s book, What is Subtitle Translation – Looking at the Skills and Theory Behind Subtitling, the seminar will go over the written and unwritten rules of subtitles. We will also examine the effects of AI translation on the industry.
Part 3: “The Skills, Process, and Connections to Become a Visual Media Translator”
Is it true that it’s difficult to become a subtitler? What mistakes are common when debuting? What do clients expect? How do you build connections? All these questions will be answered in this section of the seminar.
